Though SSDs are now much easier to be gotten than several years ago, and the prices slowly decline over time, some people may find most SSDs to be expensive. In fact, many SSD products are still several times more expensive than HDDs. Whereas, SSD is much more reliable than HDD. Because of that, PNY has tried to introduce more affordable models in order to provide some choices for budget plans by releasing PNY CS1311 SSD. In short, PNY CS1311 SSD is an excellent product. It is priced competitively, making it reachable to more people, yet it packs above-average performance!
Taking a look at PNY CS1311 SSD for the first time, we are quite pleased. Well, appearance is perhaps the last thing you would care about an SSD because it will be put hidden inside your personal computer anyway, but, still, who don’t get tired looking at plain black chips all the time? PNY CS1311 SSD is encased in a black metal body with the topside layered by a cool-looking carbon fiber. The textured gradient of the blacks, combined with the assertive bright red lining, makes PNY CS1311 SSD appears elegant and classy. It easily stands out from other SSD products. A nice touch from PNY.
PNY CS1311 SSD itself has the usual body size, being a 7mm 2.5” form factor, with SATA III 6 Gb/s compatibility. It is also backward compatible with SATA II 3 Gb/s. For your convenience, it also comes complete with a 2.5mm spacer so that it can be used for mobile systems that have 9.5mm HDD bays.
The secret behind its excellent performance is the utilization of Phison S10 controller and 15nm Toshiba TLC NAND components. The controller is the same as the one used in PNY’s higher models, though the TLC NAND is more of a cost-efficient choice. Still, PNY CS1311 SSD manages to achieve decent performance. It is better than most SSD products currently available on the market. Its sequential read/write speeds are rated up to 550/520 MB/s, respectively, while random-order read/write speeds can reach around 90k IOPS. These are certainly impressive numbers. With a sophisticated design, PNY CS1311 SSD maintains to work at low temperature, thus keeping its consistency. Also, being shock resistant and boasting two million hours MTBF rating, PNY CS1311 SSD is something that lasts for a long time.
Though it already packs a strong punch on itself, PNY CS1311 SSD is coming together with Acronis Data Migration bonus software. The software is very handy and powerful for transferring data across hardware and platforms. Available in four capacity choices, PNY CS1311 SSD is an excellent budget-friendly product that can be suitable for various needs. (Click here to see the other PNY’s reviews)
