Choosing a Memory Card

Do you remember how many photos or videos are on your phone? We are sure most of us don’t even know how often they took or saved pictures and videos from the internet if not the gallery tells you the amount of file in each folder. Chances are there are hundreds or even thousands and more, especially if you have a larger memory phone or choose to install a memory card as well. Memory card is a very convenient way to store or expand your storage.

However, there are just too many of them out there and sometimes the memory we bought or installed is not working properly for unknown reasons. Yes, they can fit inside the memory slot the same way but performance and reliability vary across options. Since many of them are not cheap either, it is important to shop wisely so we can make sure that the product is working well for our needs and purposes. Read also: Adata SU650 VS SU750 here.

What to know is there are actually several types of memory and since they are looking the same it can be a bit difficult to determine the difference but worry not, the product is always printed with the formats very clearly so, we have SD, SDHC, and SDXC or MicroSD, MicroSDHC, and MicroSDXC, along with SDUC. MicroSD can be made for up to 2GB and works in any MicroSD slot, MicroSDHC can be made up to 32GB and works in any hardware that supports either SDHC or SDXC.

MicroSDXC on the other hand can be very large in capacity or up to 2TB but is only supported by devices with a slot compatible with the format and the last SDUC can be even bigger at 128TB but also require compatible devices to work. When you buy a memory card, do check the information they provided because just like tires, all of the specs are already provided on the product so we can match them with our device or purposes.

The difference in terms of performance is that SDHC and SDXC formats will support the Ultra High Speed bus interface and it will simply move files faster too. On the memory card, you can find tons of specs that can be used to determine how fast or reliable the storage is such as video speed class, application performance class, speed class, etc. This information may not completely tell you the real-world experience but can be used as a base to make buying decisions.

About SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme

For those who will want to buy new storage whether it is for the phone, laptop, or other electronics like cameras, make sure to check the specification of the card and your own device first. If your device can support any cards then we can pick any that seems to be more promising based on the popularity, capacity, or budget but the most important is how they are compatible with each other. If you are here then we assume that this memory card is meant to store videos.

Any memory card and any format can store lots of different types of files so they can be used the same way but, when it comes to video especially for recording the file, we have different speeds based on the device’s ability and the faster it is, the faster the memory needs to be. Among those many options or companies making memory cards, SanDisk is always one of the best choices. This brand is extremely famous along with other market leaders like Samsung, Lexar, Kingston, etc.

However, just like many other companies, they do carry lots of amazing options and each one may be made focused on a certain application or to be versatile. The SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme are some of the most popular when it comes to storing purposes related to videos, especially the High Endurance variant because this card is already labeled for the said purpose. However, specs wise both are pretty much identical so they will be very similar as well.

These memory cards are compatible with other applications too so if your smart device needs an expanded storage then any of the two will be a great choice. Many users such as drone pilots and drivers who are using cameras to record their activities are relying on these memories but in comparison it seems the Extreme is overall the more popular choice, probably because it suggests that you can use the card for a wide range of applications and not just for the continuous data writer.

SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme Design

Before getting into what SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme can offer, let’s take a look into the unit first and as you can expect, there is nothing special here. These are MicroSD size with typical fashion but they do have different details and High Endurance chose this white finish with large model naming at the top; just what the Extreme is doing too Probably because High Endurance is meant for the continuous writing purpose, they don’t print the Application Performance class info here.

Extreme is very noticeable from the range of memory cards from other brands because of the gold and red fashion but this card is also putting more info at the top even though Lexar usually can put more. Just like most cards you buy, we are going to get the adapter as well so in case your device doesn’t have a dedicated slot for the form factor we can still plug them inside. As for the capacity, Extreme is up to 1TB while High Endurance is up to 256GB.

SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme Benchmark

Moving further to the most important part, let’s take a look at the performance of SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme. Both are claimed to be class 10 in speed class but it only tells you that they are at least working at 10MBps in which the High Endurance is stated to be at 100MB/s and Extreme at 90MB/s at the top. In testing these numbers are not accurate but near and surprisingly the Extreme is faster at 99MB/s while the former is 88MB/s by using the card reader.

This is not a bad number at all and when it comes to the write speed it seems High Endurance is even better than what’s claimed by the company because it was 40MB/s but turns out it is tested at around 65MB/s. On the other hand Extreme seems to be still slightly leading the game because it shows a higher speed at 72MB/s. Based on the benchmark it seems claims and real-world performance are not always the same and we do think in action they will be just about the same to each other.

SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme Price & Warranty

Other than these simple benchmarks which show a good result but rather not special as well, we do think it is wise to consider the option based on the cost. Currently Extreme is the more expensive option with around 2 bucks in difference so it is not surprising the card actually being the faster one. They are some of the best to go for yet you can find lots of similar options at a lower price point and in addition, the High Endurance is only listed for 2-year warranty instead of 10-year or lifetime warranty like most of SanDisk other variants.

The High Endurance is claimed to be able to record Full HD for up to 5,000 hours but it is not a guarantee too and the Extreme can perform just the same since real videos will be most likely less than what they are written on the paper.

SanDisk High Endurance Vs Extreme

In comparison, the SanDisk High Endurance and Extreme are seemingly not prominently different from each other and from the similar offerings from other brands. Performance wise the higher priced Extreme is probably going to be faster but whether it is noticeable in real-life application or not it can be highly subjective too, especially those that will only use them in dashcam or security camera since we don’t monitor them like when using smartphones or computers.

They are equally versatile with Extreme showing a higher edge over the writing and reading performance so if “faster” is what you are aiming for then we are going to suggest this variant as the better choice. It also comes with a longer warranty so it can be more reassuring in case there are some issues with the product later. Chances are they will replace the memory but our files are not included.
