SanDisk is loved by many because their storage devices are of high quality, yet in reasonable and affordable price ranges. Now, if you are planning to upgrade your old HDD to a new, more powerful SSD, you may have put special attention to SanDisk X400 and SanDisk Ultra II. Both models are available in more-or-less similar capacity choices. Both are generally budget-friendly, but, well, SanDisk X400 is usually more expensive than SanDisk Ultra II. Design and Capacity Choices
Both SanDisk X400 and SanDisk Ultra II are SSD devices with the ultra-compact and ultra-lightweight 2.5” form factor. The small design makes them suitable for use in tight places, such as in laptops and notebooks. Both already support SATA III for high-speed 6 Gbps data transfer, but they are also backward-compatible with older SATA versions. Both SanDisk X400 and SanDisk Ultra II are available in four capacity choices. SanDisk X400 is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. On the other hand, SanDisk Ultra II is available in 120GB, 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB. As you can see, SanDisk X400 is generally larger than SanDisk Ultra II. One of the reasons for why SanDisk X400 being slightly more expensive is due to being a newer model. However, it is armed with the Marvell 88SS1074 controller. On the other hand, SanDisk Ultra II is armed with the Marvell 88SS9189 controller. Both models are equipped with TLC NAND technology and nCache 2.0 technology. Both also support NCQ to manage queue length for faster and more reliable multitasking and workload management. Even so, we should note that SanDisk X400 is coming with the TCG Opal 2.0 support for enhanced data security and protection.
Various tests and user benchmarks have shown that SanDisk Ultra II is actually faster than SanDisk X400. To be fair, the difference is not very large. But, still, SanDisk Ultra II is faster. On paper, the sequential read/write speeds are 550/500 MBps, whereas the random read/write speeds are 99k/83k IOPS. On the other hand, SanDisk X400 only has 545/520 MBps sequential read/write speeds, 95k/75k IOPS random read/write speeds.

In general, SanDisk Ultra II makes the best value for the money due to having better and faster overall performance. Nevertheless, if you value the TCG Opal 2.0 support, you can choose SanDisk X400 instead.
